William John Leech RHA 1881-1968 MAY RESTING Oil on canvas, 18'' x 20'' (40.7 x 50.8cm), signed. Leech met & fell in love with May Botterell while married to an American beauty, Elizabeth Saurin. May was married to Percy Botterell, a prominent lawyer. Their relationship caused both marriages to end. Leech married May in April 1953 after both Elizabeth & Percy had died. May was the love of Leech's life & he painted her on numerous occasions.
