Lot 106 - THE POOL by Rosaleen Brigid Ganly Lot 106 Rosaleen Brigid Ganly THE POOL
Estimate: €1,000 - €2,000
Rosaleen Brigid Ganly HRHA, 1909-2002
THE POOL
Oil on board, 10" x 14" (25.4 x 35.6cm), artist label verso.

Rosaleen Brigid Ganly, daughter of Dermod O'Brien PPRHA and Mabel Smyly, began her education at the Metropolitan School of Art under tutors such as Patrick Touhy and Sean Keating. Continuing her studies at the Royal Hibernian Academy with Margaret Clarke and Sean O'Sullivan as teachers, Ganly was made an associate of the RHA in 1928 and remained closely associated to the institution her whole life. She became a member of the RHA from 1935-1968, resigning in 1969 in protest over the lack of young artists being given the opportunity to exhibit. In 1982 Ganly was made an honorary member and returned to the RHA. Throughout her life Ganly exhibited extensively at the RHA and Watercolour Society annual shows and the Dawson Gallery (1965) as well as a retrospective at the Hugh Lane in 1998.

In 1951 Ganly travelled to Paris to train with Andre L'hote and continued with him to Greece. L'hote practiced and taught a form of Cubism which appealed to Ganly and other Irish artists. The works in this auction come from a private collection and showcase Ganly's working method and changing approach to painting throughout her extensive career. From the cubist influence of Andre Lhote and travels to Greece to fine examples of her portraiture, still life's and landscapes.

In order to allow rival bidders the opportunity to respond to a late bid the following extensions will apply:
IF A BID IS RECEIVED WITHIN THE FINAL 45 SECONDS OF THE COUNTDOWN THE CLOCK WILL RESET TO 60 SECONDS.

At any point you can leave a maximum bid, representing the highest price you are prepared to pay for a particular lot. Bidding only advances when there is competition from a rival bidder. In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.

All maximum bids are confidential and not disclosed. The system will endeavor to purchase the lot for you for the least price. Bids are subject to buyer’s premium of 25% (incl vat), with no additional charges.

In the event of a tied bid, the preference will be given to the bid submitted first. The second bidder will receive immediate notification of being outbid.
