Hughie O'Donoghue b.1953 GETTING OUT AT CHERBOURG Oil on canvas, 32 1/4'' x 36 1/2'' (82 x 93 cm), signed, titled and dated 1996 / 7 verso This work comes from a series entitled 'The Fall of France', relating to Hughie's father, who was an infantry soldier in World War II. He retreated through France and the port of Cherbourg in 1940, illustrated by the dark ship sailing away on the horizon.
