Irish Art & Sculpture Auction

June 11, 2019 | 18:00

An auction of real quality that included a number of outstanding works. Louis le Brocquy was represented by three tapestries including 'Allegory' from 1950, a series that rarely appears at auction (estimate 60,000-90,000). This sold for the top price of 92,000.

A feature of the auction was the sculpture section, displayed in the garden of The Merrion Hotel. Rowan Gillespie's 'Portrait of a Dreamer - Homage to John Lennon', a 7½ foot bronze from 1982 (estimate 40,000-60,000), sold for 67,500.
