Lot 55 - THE ROVER CHAIR, by RON ARAD Lot 55 RON ARAD THE ROVER CHAIR,
Estimate: €3,000 - €5,000
THE ROVER CHAIR, BY RON ARAD (1980s), MANUFACTURED BY ONE OFF LTD., painted steel and leather. 122cm (w) x 76cm (h) x 90cm (d).

Provenance: Purchased by the vendor in the early 1990's from O'Hagan Design, Dublin, who acquired it directly from the artists workshop.

Ron Arad was born in Israel in 1951. Following his studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, he moved to London in 1973 to study at the Architectural Association. He started his first company in 1981 and set up Ron Arad Associates in 1989 in Chalk Farm, north London.

He left his job as an architect after discovering a Rover car seat in a local scrapyard. The leather seat went on to become the basis of the Rover chair, designed in 1981 and Arad's first iconic product, and now in MOMA Collection.

"I picked up this Rover seat and I made myself a frame and this piece sucked me into this world of design," he said. "If someone had told me a week before that I was going to be a furniture designer, I would think they were crazy."

  • How bidding works
  • Please note: Each lot will close numerically. If there is late bidding the time may be extended which could delay subsequent lots.

In order to allow rival bidders the opportunity to respond to a late bid the following extensions will apply:
IF A BID IS RECEIVED IN THE FINAL 45 SECONDS OF THE COUNTDOWN THE CLOCK WILL RESET TO 60 SECONDS.

At any point you can leave a maximum bid, representing the highest price you are prepared to pay for a particular lot. Bidding only advances when there is competition from a rival bidder. In that case the system bids on your behalf, only up to the maximum if required. All bids are relayed to you be email, along with notification if you have been outbid.

All maximum bids are confidential and not disclosed. The system will endeavor to purchase the lot for you for the least price. Bids are subject to buyer’s premium of 25% (incl vat), with no additional charges.

For the upcoming auction on June 22nd, the lots will commence closing at 6pm. Lot 1 will close at 6pm with each subsequent lot closing at 45 second intervals.

In the event of a tied bid, the preference will be given to the bid submitted first. The second bidder will receive immediate notification of being outbid.
