Irish School 20th Century PEACE DOVE Bronze and bog oak, 14'' high x 15'' wide ( 35.5 x 38 cm) Provenance: Ex-Collection of Mo Mowlam MP New Information: This bronze, one of seven, was commissioned by the organisation known as STOP 96 (Solidarity For Organised Peace), set up in 1996 in response to the Manchester bombings. In 1998, STOP 96 called for 2 minutes silence across the island of Ireland at 11 a.m.on 12 February. All the main political parties in the Dail supported the call. Northern Ireland Secretary Mo Mowlam also backed the event. The bronze was designed by Joe Sweeney and Paul Burton and made at the old CIE Foundry in Inchicore and 'Peace' is inscribed in 23 different languages on the wings. This edition was presented to the late Mo Mowlam MP, others to receive one include Bill Clinton (then US President), Tony Blair (Prime Minister) and Bertie Aherne (Taoiseach).
