Donald Teskey

Donald Teskey was born in Limerick and graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 1978. He held his first solo exhibition in 1980 and from this time established himself as an inspiring draughtsmen. His paintings depict gritty urbanity through thick applied paint with brushes and knives. The result is a painting with visceral physicality. At this time Teskey painted from photographs but after a prolonged trip to Mayo in 2000, he began painting landscapes from drawings. His subjects now lie predominantly in the landscape of the Western seaboard, but his work has maintained its urban character.

Among Teskey’s achievements, he has benefited from a number of prestigious awards, was an artist in residence for two months at the Josef and Anni Alvers Foundation, Connecticut and has been exhibited and collected internationally. He is a member of Aosdána and a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy.
